Just listening to the podcast. Kudos on your honesty on the NRC/Deer issue. From my perspective I agree 100% that the primary motivation of hunters is to hunt. We do need to argue for sensible management of all wildlife (including deer). As deer hunters of course we want a sustainable number of wild deer in the environment for hunting but the key word is sustainable – it serves nobody well if the deer are under-abundant (lack of opportunity and financial benefits) just as it serves nobody well if they are over-abundant (agricultural and environmental impacts). Not an easy issue for Government but it clearly requires more thought from Government than the knee-jerk, exclusive access model championed by the NSW NRC.
